Ancient Cheese!

3300 year-old cheese! Found in broken jars in a tomb in Memphis, Egypt, this cheese was set aside for the afterlife. The analysis of the dry, crumbly substance in the jars showed evidence of the same proteins we would expect in the cheese we eat today. You probably wouldn’t want to eat this cheese, however. Besides being dry and crumbly and over 3000 years old, in the tested sample they found evidence of a bacterial infection that causes serious illness, brucellosis. Maybe that was the true curse on this Egyptian’s tomb!
