Discovered at the site of an ancient shipwreck near Greece, the Antikythera Mechanism was always thought to be some kind of astronomical device. But, because it was badly corroded, scientists could only guess at what it accomplished. When special photography was invented and applied to the device, the various layers of internal gears, writing and mechanism were discovered. Through careful reconstruction it is now known that this device could predict the position of the moon, planets, eclipses and other astronomical information. Who built this advanced machine 21 centuries ago?
