Joseph Schubert grew up terrified of spiders. If he had the upper hand he would squish them--and in Australia there were plenty to squish! He was an arachnophobe—someone afraid of spiders and their kin (scorpions, daddy long legs, sun spiders, centipedes and the like). As a young student, he pursued a degree in biology and came across pictures of the peacock spider. It was rainbow colored, made crazy dance moves to lure a female, and it captured his imagination. It turned his fear into fandom. He now searches the outback to find new species of the peacock spider. Maybe something that sounds icky now will be your love tomorrow!
