Apparently, bad news travels fast for a raven. Tested for their “mood,” ravens were fed unappealing carrots and tasty dog food in unmarked boxes. Some other ravens were allowed to watch at a distance, but could not see what the others were eating. Ravens confronted with carrots were cranky, spending little time looking at the food and kicked and scratched at it. When the observing birds got a chance to investigate their own closed box, they engaged in the same negative behaviors as though they assumed it had carrots inside! The pessimistic bad mood seemed to have been communicated rather than the message of tasty dog food! See and read more at:
