A 600-meter net is being deployed in the Pacific Ocean to collect plastic waste. Estimates place the number of plastic piece floating about in the North Atlantic alone to be 1.8 trillion pieces. The system is designed to remove larger pieces that account for 90% of the plastic. Some worry that this system may draw attention away from the real problem of using and disposing of too much plastics.
