Coconuts grow as on palms as high as 60 feet off the ground. While most are harvested by people with long canes with sharp knives on the ends, there are a handful of people who use monkeys. In a small island off Thailand, an owner sends his macaque monkey up the tree. The monkey twists a ripe coconut off the tree and lets it fall to the ground. This process is repeated and by day’s end the monkey has gathered 1000 coconuts. His reward? His owner buys him a sticky bun from a local junk food store. Some would complain that this is abuse of animals. What do you think?
