Invasive Hippos!

Hippos don’t belong in South America! Nevertheless, they are multiplying like crazy along the shores of the Magdalena River in Columbia. Four hippos were brought into a drug lord’s estate in the early 1990’s as exotic pets. The drug lord was killed in 1993 and all his other animals were transferred to zoos. The hippos didn’t cooperate and were left to breed and breed they did. Now these huge animals consume enormous amounts of plant material and poop in the water causing lots of problems. One hippo can deposit 1650 pounds of poop a year in the river. Multiply that by dozens of hippos and there is a serious problem! Without some control, hippos will reign. What can be done?
