Killer Balloons

Many species of sea birds hunt the surface waters of the ocean looking for prey like small fish or squid. When they see something red floating along with stringy-like legs they see “food” and snap it up. Unfortunately, that red object can be a piece of plastic—especially balloon plastic. The ingested balloon goes into the stomach and then gets stuck in the intestinal track. The bird either dies of starvation or infection. Keep your balloons on a string!
