Mars is a long way from earth—133 million miles on average. The trip takes anywhere from 6 months to a year depending on how one goes about aiming at the red planet. For now, NASA is planning trips of un-manned craft. The trip is too long and dangerous for people to start picking up soil samples and doing experiments. That is the job for the new rover called Perseverance. It will have a two-year mission to Mars in February of 2021.
