Mating Frenzy!

Some cicadas have been observed in not stop mating. No eating, no fighting, no resting, just mating. What causes this unusual behavior? Are they the result of some experiment? It turns out they are being drugged, but not by anyone in the laboratory. These cicadas are infected with a specialized fungus. The fungus sends out a chemical drug like amphetamine or other stimulant that pushes the cicada’s drive to mate. Why would the fungi do this you ask? The fungi reproduce and spread when the cicadas mate, so it a sure way of the survival of the fungi to live another day.
