Those giant flying reptiles with big teeth and ominous eyes prowl about attacking prey—that’s how the scifi movies depict the pterosaurs. In actuality, the fossils of pterosaurs show that they fed on fish. Evidence of bones and scales in their stomachs lead scientists to think they roamed over shallow seas. There is new evidence that they also hunted squid! In a fossil of a foot-long squid, paleontologists found a single tooth. Matching the tooth to known skeletons, it appears this squid got away from the would-be predator.
