Shot Between The Eyes!

Over 200,000 soldiers were killed in the Civil War as a result of wounds incurred in battle. If you were shot, the probability of recovering was less than half as 2/3 of those who died in the conflict were from disease or infection. What makes the story of Jacob Miller especially #STEMazing is that he survived. He was shot between the eyes with a musket ball at the battle of Chickamauga in 1863. He was left for dead, but somehow survived. He regained consciousness and hobbled back to get help. The doctors thought he would not survive so would not operate to remove the bullet. All this we know because he tells the story some 31 years later and lives to be 84.
