Silver Streak Speedsters!

Galloping at speeds of 85.5 cm per second (that is almost a meter/second!) the amazing silver ant species has tiny legs, but they move like lightening. Zooming over the hot desert sand they hunt prey during the day. They stay cool with the matting of tiny hairs that form an insulation of air around their abdomen. The air refracts light so that they look like they have a silver covering. Moving legs in groups of three, the ant hovers over the sand at times as though it is floating on the surface. Adjusting for size, this might be the fastest creature on the planet!
