Space Copper

In 1963, the United States rocketed millions of copper needles into space. For about four months, the earth had a copper ring. Were we trying to look like Saturn? Actually, it was an experiment to determine if radio signals could be skipped off a cloud of copper. The idea was to assure that the US in the Cold War would communicate with its allies around the world. Undersea cables and short wave radio could be interrupted. The experiment worked, for a while.
