A woman in Missouri went to the doctor because she had a persistent swishing sound in her ear. When the nurse looked in with the Otoscope (the magnifier and light that is used to examine the eardrum), she saw legs! As the doctor retrieved the creepy crawly from her ear it was apparent that it was a spider. Not any spider, as it turned out, but a brown recluse spider. Brown recluses look very much like normal wolf spiders we find around our homes, except these have six eyes rather than eight and they carry a powerful toxin. It is a good thing that this spider did not bite her. If it had she could have become seriously ill as the toxin kills tissue requiring months to heal and leaving a significant scar.
